The Heart of Ancient Narni

Take a journey through time as you discover an ancient church, resigned to obscurity until it was rediscovered in 1979. Your tickets to the heart of ancient Narnia will bring you inside an underground church devoted to the Archangel Michael, which dates back to the 13th century. A multimedia experience will present the church as it changed over the years, and in adjacent rooms you’ll find out how Narnia’s ancient Roman aqueduct was excavated. There’s also a harrowing glimpse into the past as you enter the dungeons of the Holy Office of the Inquisition that were used to combat heresy. Graffiti from the prisoners’ cell still remains, and with the help of the Vatican archives, it’s been possible to reconstruct some of their stories. Your tour will also take you to the upper church – which served as the first cathedral of the city – with its Byzantine mosaic, frescoes, and other remains.
